Gut-Healing Vegetable Broth

Published September 29, 2024 by tindertender

By Crissy Joshua

A healthy gut impacts virtually every aspect of our body by improving our immune system and supporting the health of organs such as the heart. This has important knock-on effects on our daily lives by promoting healthy sleep and a better mood.

Our gut microbiome is made up of hundreds of different types of bacteria, some necessary and good (or friendly) and others that can be detrimental to our health. For that reason, it’s important to look after your gut and keep everything working in harmony. Certain factors can contribute to gut issues such as lack of sleep, too much stress, taking antibiotics, eating processed foods, or having too much sugar in your diet.

Some signs that your gut may be in trouble include:

  • An upset stomach e.g. bloating or gas
  • Losing or gaining weight without changing your diet or exercise routine
  • Poor sleep or insomnia
  • Food intolerances

Let’s look at how to improve your gut health by making a simple but healing vegetable broth. First, I’ll explain how the different ingredients support a healthy gut and then share how to make the recipe.

Gut-Healing Properties of Vegetable Broth

I’ve used the following ingredients in this recipe: cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, garlic, miso paste, ginger, coconut oil, and turmeric.

  • Gut-Healing Properties of Cabbage: Cabbage is probably one of the best-known vegetables for being gut healing. The soluble fiber it contains is great for feeding the friendly gut bacteria and the insoluble fiber helps to maintain the digestive system by promoting regular bowel movements. Cabbage is also high in L-glutamine, a building block of protein, that helps to heal the lining of the gut.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Mushrooms: Mushrooms have been used in medicinal remedies for thousands of years. In terms of gut healing, mushrooms help fight bacteria which helps to keep a healthy microbiome. They are also good prebiotics that stimulates probiotics in the gut.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Carrots: Carrots contain pectin which is a soluble fiber. This slows down your digestion of starch and sugar. It also feeds the good bacteria in your gut helping your gut cells to stay healthy. Consuming carrots regularly can even prevent the formation of a gastric ulcer and other digestive issues.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Garlic: Garlic has been used in medicine for over 5,000 years and it is a superfood on many levels but is especially good for the gut. That’s partly because garlic is high in a non-digestible carbohydrate called inulin that feeds good bacteria in the gut. This helps your gut function better overall and stops the growth of disease-promoting bacteria.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Miso Paste: Miso paste is made from fermented soybeans making it full of probiotics that improve your gut health. One particular probiotic in miso paste, Aspergillus Oryzae, naturally helps maintain a good-bad bacteria balance.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Ginger: Ginger has a calming effect on the stomach and has gut-healing properties. It also aids digestion and stops food from sitting and fermenting in the intestine by helping your gut move it along. Ginger has over 100 bioactive compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiemetic properties and it’s many of these that aid digestion. It also stimulates digestive acids and supports the absorption of nutrients.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Coconut Oil: Coconut oil helps to absorb the other nutrients in this broth and also has properties that destroy bad bacteria and lower stomach acid. It also works to restore a healthy balance when there is an imbalance in the gut.
  • Gut-Healing Properties of Turmeric: Turmeric has long been used to treat digestive issues in ayurvedic medicine. Turmeric is beneficial to the gut in several ways: it helps the stomach lining, promotes the growth of good gut bacteria, and can prevent bloating or gas while food is being digested.

However, turmeric does negatively affect some people’s digestion, especially where they already have issues. If you know that turmeric doesn’t sit well in your stomach then leave this ingredient out of the broth.

How to Make This Gut-Healing Vegetable Broth

This is a very simple recipe to prepare and should only take five minutes or less. It will then take one hour to cook, roughly 20 minutes to cool, then you need to strain it at the end. You should take this three times a day if you are experiencing gut problems or once a day or every few days if you are looking to maintain your gut health. You can make larger batches if you are going to be taking this regularly to save yourself time. If you divide the quantities below into four serving sizes each portion will have approximately 40 calories.

Ingredients

  • 4 Cloves of garlic
  • 1 inch knob of ginger
  • 6 Mushrooms
  • 10 oz. (250 grams) of cabbage
  • 4 Carrots
  • A Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon of ground turmeric
  • 1 Tablespoon of organic virgin coconut oil
  • 1 Tablespoon of miso paste
  • 8 Cups of filtered water

Utensils

  • Large pot
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Strainer
  • Large bowl

Method

Slice 10 oz. of cabbage up into strips and place them in your pot.

Cut 4 carrots and 6 mushrooms into quarters and add them to your pot.

  1. Bruise 4 garlic cloves with the side of a knife then throw these in.
  2. Roughly chop your piece of ginger (you can leave the skin on if it’s organic, otherwise peel it first) then add this too.
  1. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric, and a pinch of black pepper.
  2. Cover all of your vegetables with water (about 8 cups) and put the lid on your pot.
  3. Bring it to a boil then turn down the heat so the water is simmering and leave it for 1 hour.
  1. Take it off the heat and allow it to cool somewhat before the next step so you aren’t dealing with hot liquid.
  2. Wait until the soup has been taken off the heat and then stir or whisk in the miso paste. It will melt into the soup thanks to the residual heat of the stock
  1. ***Miso is a fermented food, meaning it contains live, active cultures of bacteria. Adding it to boiling water will kill the probiotics in the miso, nixing the health benefits it typically offers, like better digestive health.
  2. Strain the liquid into a large bowl.

You can take some straight away or put it in the fridge. It will also keep in the freezer for a couple of months if you store it in airtight containers.

Takeaway:

The gut microbiome is host to an abundance of intestinal flora that can make (or break) your physical and mental health depending on if it is balanced. From immunity to nutrient absorption, anxiety and depression to weight loss, the gut microflora plays a crucial role in our overall well-being. Many don’t give a second thought to gut health until an issue develops. However, this is a mistake. If you would like to truly thrive, caring for your gut should be a top priority. And one of the best ways to do this is through diet and medicinal herbs.

Fungi Charm

Published June 2, 2024 by tindertender

The most chilling mushrooms in the world ..

The charms of the Fungi Kingdom 🍄

Fungi are misfit organisms. Although they are much closer genetically to animals than plants, they were considered to be plants for centuries. Their cell structure is unique, as is their manner of living. They belong to a world entirely of their own.

The fungus that is only poisonous if you are also drinking
Have you ever eaten the cap mushroom? If you’re chewing a little now, that’s fine. Just do not drink for a while. This fungus does not harm sober people, but it lowers the wrath of God to drinkers.
The mushrooms are quite nice that grow well in places occupied by humans. They are taken to lawns, pastures and abandoned land, where the soil is disturbed regularly. They come out of the ground like oblong and white bells that then spread out to look like umbrellas. The gills at the bottom become a striking black, slowly graying the upper half of the fungus. The hats look tasty, and many people should be tempted to eat a bite.
For the most part, one bite is fine. Although inky tapas are not food mushrooms, and should not be made at a large meal or long-term meal, usually a single mushroom will not do you any harm.
Except that the inky are also called drunken bane. They take a rather puritanical view of the drink. People who drink anywhere from three hours to five days after eating an ink cap will feel that their face starts to turn red, their limbs tingling, and their heart starts to run. Then come nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, heart problems. The more alcohol the unfortunate sinner drinks, the more they suffer. If things go bad, they will have a heart attack. A person has died from eating an ink cap and then drinking.
The inky caps sow their vengeance initiating an immediate and severe hangover. Chemical acetaldehyde is generally associated with hangovers, and experts believe it causes the sweating, nausea and vomiting that so many people regret. Finally, however, enzymes in the body break acetaldehyde and people recover. However, inky caps contain coprine, a chemical that stops the enzyme, which results in an immediate accumulation of acetaldehyde, and there is no end to hangover. It can take days to work coprine out of a person’s system.
Coprine was studied extensively by scientists who wanted to use it to make alcoholics reluctant to drink. But their methods, and their long-term effects, proved too severe. The inky do not have such scruples, so be careful with these mushrooms if you want to have a drink.

Bioengineered ~ Is It Even Food?

Published October 23, 2023 by tindertender

𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗦‼️ 🧐

Below is a small taste of some of our food supply that has been in engineered in Frankenstein’s lab. These products are now all genetically modified/ bioengineered. These actually say that they are BE in tiny letters but many others don’t. They can just put a BE seal, a QR code that you have to scan or a phone number. Also since they changed the definition from GMO to BioEngineered they can get away with not even telling you certain items are GMO.

What have you found these words on that surprised you?

Baking powder was shocking to me!

A bioform cannot survive on chemicals from a lab. It will become sick. The bioform needs natures medicines, the plants, the be healthy.

Sacred Exchange of Love

Published October 4, 2023 by tindertender

Today, I no longer think of myself as simply a chef. I create opportunities for a sacred exchange of love, gratitude and celebration of the gift of life on Earth. As anyone who cooks with love and care, I am an alchemist with the sacred task of transforming the sacrificed life of one being, whether it is plant or animal, dead or alive, into life-giving nourishment for another.

When I cook in right relationship, the love of the Great Mother flows through the love and sacrifice of her creatures, filling us with Divine Nourishment and creating oneness. One becomes food for another, dispelling the illusion of being separate. This is the nourishment I have always longed for.
When I eat in sync with the season, it’s as if a wise woman appears along a cold, barren trail. She invites me to warm myself by a fire with a deep bed of coals, and offers me a hot bowl of soup, a loaf of bread.

Our Mother Earth brings love to us through the form of food and sensual experiences. Without this we could not have a human experience. Without the human experience, our soul could not grow and evolve. Eating is a sacred act. Something living dies, we take it into our bodies, and it becomes part of us as we become part of it. Plant or animal, hunted, gathered, or bought in the supermarket, this exchange and balance creates the
interconnectedness in the physical realm and allows the natural world to continue. To treat the act of cooking and eating as a chore is a denigration of the love from our Mother, plants and animals. Eating is one of the most basic acts of self-nourishment and honoring of one’s life. It is a necessary step toward self-love and wholeness.

When we nourish ourselves with gratitude according to deep wisdom of nature, we are returning this love and respect by honoring our ife as sacred and interconnected with al there is. By nourishing ourselves nature’s way we are given a map to live by that honors and unites life, death, light, dark equally. It gives us the tools to receive the gifts of both sides to grow and evolve.

Apples of the Garden

Published August 19, 2023 by tindertender

When I moved in I was not able to get to the apples right away. Many fell and were cooked by the sun. Today, I collected them.

I gathered 2 bags of good apples, some bruises, some worm holes, but all in all good, ripe apples. I also gathered 8 bags of rotten apples.

I was thanking God for the abundance. I was marveling at how all I need do is collect and prep for storage, for future use. How great The Most High God is! And to think I’ve just been blessed with this abundance, right in my own yard.

I began thinking about the Garden of Eden. I consider “the garden” to be this planet, Earth. I’ve been pondering the forest, a desire building in me about FOOD Forests … abundance for all living creatures. I wondered … what if humans are the “apple” of Creator’s Eye? What if, in the beginning, many races and species inhabited this planet (still do BTW). What if Creator told all here that they were permitted to eat of everything except the apple … the apple of his eye … humans. If they did, they would be evicted from the garden.

Well … they did. They’ve been growing, harvesting as food (meat and energy) humans, and many others who were here to love and live.

I was thinking about the separation, as I just did, with the ‘good’ apples and the ‘rotten’ apples. Have some humans turned on their brethren for money and material items? Of course they did. They were warned.

Do they think they will be able to overcome the Most High? Do they believe they will evict Creator from His Realm? Yes, they do. There are those who have inverted the codes and believe they can overcome the original.

Anyway … the apples to me, are an analogy of what is currently happening. I don’t have to see it to know it’s happening. I see what the challengers are doing, and I know full well they are running scared, hoping against all hope that what they were told, what they sold their soul for, is the truth … I have a feeling they know otherwise by now.

God’s picking up apples.

I have a lot of bruises. I have suffered being host for, and food for, parasites. They’ve eaten the soft tissues of my joints, bored holes into my muscular structure.

As I have saved the bruised ones with worm holes, tossing aside the rotten ones, I believe God is doing that right now too. This is why it came to me as I was picking up apples. He may even have been doing His work in tandem with me. Oh how I absolutely LOVE that thought!!

The Harvest is upon us.

The Most High God, He who has been given All Authority has decreed it … “They will get what they deserve.”

And I’m not even going to wonder about what that is … it is clear what they’ve been applying their effort and energy in … creating misery for others, stealing their wealth, abundance, God ordained destinies …

When you put all your effort in creating something that hurts so badly … I’m ‘guessing’ the Universe has ordained them the karma of experiencing their creation.

I’m gathering the good apples. I will carve off the bad portions. They will contribute just as much goodness to the collective (collection) of apples that will be present to enrich the coming months, and years.

To the King, The Most High, He with All Authority I offer my praise and gratitude.

Thank you for the intimate knowing. The lessons in all their forms. Thank you for forging me in the fires. I look forward to the pendulum swing in this experience, a slow exhilarating inhale of blessings to bring balance to what was.

A return to Paradise.

Home.

Update:

A man rang my doorbell. He asked if he could take the 9 bags of fruit I wasn’t able to salvage. I told him it was rotten. He said he wasn’t going to eat it … compost? Feed it to livestock? I was just so thrilled that even the bad fruit was going to be used I said Yes! Yes! Please take it!!

All is right with the day.

Thank you my King/my God/my Heavenly Father!!
