It’s father’s day weekend, may you all be happy with your children. May there be peace between those parents who are separated (and still together) … for the sake of the kids.

Getting ready to go on a drive, meeting my father and new ‘family’. I have met a group of folks who are Sacred Wisdom Keepers, and they accepted me into their family so generously. Grateful to be alive and to have the opportunity to be part of something much larger than myself, or anything I’ve ever experienced.

I baked an apple/mango cobbler, and am bringing a crock pot full of butternut squash mac and cheese. No one told me it was necessary to do so, but that’s what I wish to contribute to this gathering, and so it is.

Blessings to you as you look for peace in your life this day, this weekend, this go ’round on the planet. May you understand that it is not in collecting things but in being part of something much bigger than self, something which benefits many.

Leave greed and need for power out of it, it has no place in the future of life.

To An Ending Of Suffering

Published May 9, 2018 by tindertender

The Dalai Lama is believed to be a manifestation/Reincarnation of Avalokiteshvara aka Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and the patron saint of Tibet. Bodhisattvas are believed to be enlightened beings who have postponed their own nirvana and chosen to take rebirth in order to serve humanity…

In the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon of enlightened beings, Chenrezig is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.

Avalokiteshvara aka Chenrezig is the earthly manifestation of the self born, eternal Buddha, Amitabha. He guards this world in the interval between the historical Sakyamuni Buddha, and the next Buddha of the Future Maitreya.

According to legend, Chenrezig made a a vow that he would not rest until he had liberated all the beings in all the realms of suffering. After working diligently at this task for a very long time, he looked out and realized the immense number of miserable beings yet to be saved. Seeing this, he became despondent and his head split into thousands of pieces. Amitabha Buddha put the pieces back together as a body with very many arms and many heads, so that Chenrezig could work with myriad beings all at the same time. Sometimes Chenrezig is visualized with eleven heads, and a thousand arms fanned out around him.

Chenrezig may be the most popular of all Buddhist deities, except for Buddha himself — he is beloved throughout the Buddhist world. He is known by different names in different lands: as Avalokiteshvara in the ancient Sanskrit language of India, as Kuan-yin in China, as Kannon in Japan.

As Chenrezig, he is considered the patron Bodhisattva of Tibet, and his meditation is practiced in all the great lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. The beloved king Songtsen Gampo was believed to be an emanation of Chenrezig, and some of the most respected meditation masters (lamas), like the Dalai Lamas and Karmapas, who are considered living Buddhas, are also believed to be emanations of Chenrezig.

Whenever we are compassionate, or feel love for anyone, or for an animal or some part of the natural world, we experience a taste of our own natural connection with Chenrezig. Although we may not be as consistently compassionate as some of the great meditation masters, Tibetan Buddhists believe that we all share, in our basic nature, unconditional compassion and wisdom that is no different from what we see in Chenrezig and in these lamas.

We might have trouble believing that we are no different than Chenrezig — but learning about the nature of compassion, and learning about Chenrezig, repeating his mantra Om Mani Padme Hum and imagining that we would like to be like Chenrezig, pretending that we really are just like Chenrezig, we actually can become aware of increasing compassion in our lives, and ultimately, the lamas tell us, awaken as completely wise and compassionate buddhas.

Mantra of Avalokiteshvara by
Margot Reisinger, Lama Tenzin Sangpo

On the meaning of:
OM MANI PADME HUM The jewel is in the lotus or praise to the jewel in the lotus by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso The Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet It is very good to recite the mantra OM MANI PADME HUM, but while you are doing it, you should be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast.

The first, OM, is composed of three pure letters, A, U, and M. These symbolize the practitioner’s impure body, speech, and mind; they also symbolize the pure exalted body, speech and mind of a Buddha. Can impure body, speech and mind be transformed into pure body, speech and mind, or are they entirely separate? All Buddhas are cases of being who were like ourselves and then in dependence on the path became enlightened; Buddhism does not assert that there is anyone who from the beginning is free from faults and possesses all good qualities. The development of pure body, speech, and mind comes from gradually leaving the impure states and their being transformed into the pure. How is this done? The path is indicated by the next four syllables.

MANI, meaning jewel, symbolizes the factor of method- the altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love. Just as a jewel is capable of removing poverty, so the altruistic mind of enlightenment is capable of removing the poverty, or difficulties, of cyclic existence and of solitary peace. Similarly, just as a jewel fulfills the wishes of sentient beings, so the altruistic intention to become enlightened fulfills the wishes of sentient beings.

The two syllables, PADME, meaning lotus, symbolize wisdom. Just as a lotus grows forth from mud but is not sullied by the faults of mud, so wisdom is capable of putting you in a situation of non- contradiction where as there would be contradiction if you did not have wisdom. There is wisdom realizing impermanence, wisdom realizing that persons are empty of self-sufficient or substantial existence, wisdom that realizes the emptiness of duality (that is to say, of difference of entity between subject and object), and wisdom that realizes the emptiness of inherent existence. Though there are may different types of wisdom, the main of all these is the wisdom realizing emptiness.

Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final syllable, HUM, which indicates indivisibility. According to the sutra system, this indivisibility of method and wisdom refers to one consciousness in which there is a full form of both wisdom affected by method and method affected by wisdom. In the mantra, or tantra vehicle, it refers to one conciousness in which there is the full form of both wisdom and method as one undifferentiable entity. In terms of the seed syllables of the five conqueror Buddhas, HUM is the is the seed syllable of Akshobhya- the immovable, the unfluctuating, that which cannot be disturbed by anything.

Thus the six syllables, OM MANI PADME HUM, mean that in dependence on the practice which is in indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha. It is said that you should not seek for Buddhahood outside of yourself; the substances for the achievement of Buddhahood are within.

As Maitreya says in his SUBLIME CONTINUUM OF GREAT VEHICLE (UTTARA TANTRA) all beings naturally have the Buddha nature in their own continuum. We have within us the seed of purity, the essence of a One Gone Thus (TATHAGATAGARBHA), that is to be transformed and full developed into Buddhahood.

Creating Sanctuary

Published April 27, 2018 by tindertender

We see snippets of peoples lives every day, we have opinions about them, maybe even make judgments about them. It’s quite unfortunate really, for there is no way to know every detail behind an action or way of living for another … yet often speak of others lives as though we know what they should be doing.

This is something I’ve personally been working very hard on for decades, breaking the tendency to have these reactions to people. As a young person I recall knowing everything, needing no instruction. HA! This idea carries over into adulthood and unless a person becomes aware of this ‘habit’ it cannot be changed.

Creating Sanctuary

What can be done to become aware, to release the tendency to assume we know what is really going on … Heart to heart, mind to mind, relating to each other in a way that is kind. People in the world who just want to be loved, who want to see others love each other, yet when they see the opposite they judge and become hopeless or angry or blame for the pain which they see and feel.

Generations of the past have set the ground for our current state. Work hard, survive. They were stoic in their steadiness, their ability to overcome odds put upon them by a government who would rather war and keep the people unsteady. They had to deal with rations and no work and making the best of a bad situation. It was, to say the least, very difficult.

Today, we see the past and the trials that were faced and overcome by our ancestors. Today, we speak loud and clear, thanks to the internet, the world wide web, we can hear each other, see each other, and know that we are for the most part on the same page. We want an end to warring, we want all people to have enough, we want to be lifted and so we are learning how to lift others. With focus and the same determination we’ve inherited we can build a sanctuary for life, all life.

We’ve been in a sort of cocoon, protected from the harshness our ancestors had to face and overcome. They’ve built this haven for us full of tools which we have access to and can use, tools which widen perspective and ability to truly see. We have every thing we need … inside of us, and now, outside of us … we are fully capable of creating beautiful change, a shift toward, and into, a new world where we are helping each other.

All life deserves a sanctuary. This earth is that. Our home is being systematically destroyed by some … even if it be blind … they participate. Counteraction bringing balance is needed. Every person who desires to be loved and to see joy in this world has the power to create it. Every one of us. Let it begin.

Harmony & Unity

Published April 8, 2018 by tindertender

UnityWhen the lone wolf begins to understand that strength lies in the pack, the magic happens, and swiftly.

For too long people have separated themselves from each other. Fear has kept us divided. Jealousy has hardened many hearts.

Understand that all things change, nothing stays the same. Embrace what each situation brings, the pathways they open in our mind, and deepness it brings to our soul.

Wave surfers

This life is an ocean with many waves and surfers. There is a rhythm which naturally happens when all are focused … in harmony there is unity.

A radiance emanates from people who are intent on achieving something. No greed, no need for power, simple solutions made successful by those who work together. A conscious cooperation which benefits the whole.

The Way Of Life

Published April 6, 2018 by tindertender

Morning stretches … energetic flow brings a sweat to my brow, my cheeks. I sit in contemplation about my family, my friends both near and far, and I send them love and peace. I think of the animals in the world and send them kindness.. I work for balance between us all where compassion binds ‘we’ together.

I open my book of “The Way of Life” according to Lao Tzu and I share what I find there.

Lao Tzu

‘Yield and you need not break’:
Bent you can straiten,
Emptied you can hold,
Torn you can mend;
And as want can reward you
So wealth can bewilder.
Aware of this, a wise man has the simple return
Which other men seek:
Without inflaming himself
He is kindled,
Without explaining himself
Is explained,
Without taking credit
Is credited,
Laying no claim
Is acclaimed
And, because he does not compete,
Finds peaceful competence.
How true is the old saying,
‘Yield and you need not break’!
How completely it comes home!

On the opposite page there is another about nature, and since they both arrived together this morning, I will share it as well, for perhaps this is the one that will strike a cord in you, ever revving your creative connective flow.

Nature does not have to insist,
Can blow for only half a morning,
Rain for only half a day,
And what are these winds and these rains but natural?
If nature does not have to insist,
Why should man?
It is natural too
That whoever follows the way of life feels alive,
That whoever uses it properly feels well used,
Whereas he who loses the way of life feels lost,
That whoever keeps to the way of life
Feels at home,
Whoever uses it properly
Feels welcome,
Whereas he who uses it improperly
Feels improperly used:
‘Fail to honor people,
They fail to honor you.’

There are systems in place which are controlling the weather, misusing the nature of things. The disconnect grows and the angst between people does as well. My hope is that more will come to realize the saneness in the words of Lao Tzu and embrace a change of thought, of heart, and of ‘doing’.

Is ‘Existence’ Being Unraveled?

Published February 16, 2018 by tindertender

There is a fork in the road. Looking from above it can be seen as one path becoming two, OR it can be seen and two paths becoming one. Coming and going, there is unity or division. The way traveled will determine what that path means for you, and what you desire in your life … union, or separation.

Is our very existence being strategically unraveled?

Past Present Future

I roamed the infinite last night and came to a place where light skinned people worked the food stores. There was complaining as they stocked the shelves, they did not want to work the whole of their weekend. The tan skinned people lounged in their outdoor hot tubs located in the currents of the river. The waters were somewhat of an aqua color, everyone was smiling and laughing, men, women & children. Joy was upon their faces and one man looked directly at me.

I wonder why some who have one appearance must serve others with differing physical characteristics, instead of all serving each other. Will this fork in the road forever have this split?

It seems just as people are meshing together, some war, here or there, is concocted to tear people apart. It seems to me that separation is orchestrated by the monetarily wealthy with made up scenarios. It appears a connection of souls is not on the agenda … for some. If people stopped warring with each other, there would be no need for a certain group to direct the majority into chaos and battle … power would level out among the people and harmony would prevail.

The chances of peace happening are very real … if only people would think with their main brain and not use the head brain for following orders blindly, for believing lies told without questioning the truth of it, or the objective.

https://spinalresearch.com.au/three-brains-head-heart-gut-sometimes-conflict/

Once the main objective is found and understood, it should be carefully considered … is it good for the people, is it ethical, is it moral, will it facilitate peace and joy, or will it cause destruction and pain? If the latter, I am hoping the inner most part of a soul would reject it, and move toward a more positive solution for whatever issue arises.
