Days That Clear The Head

Published July 14, 2019 by tindertender

After a furious stint of sewing yesterday my brain was having quite a time of it kicking back into ‘normal’ mode.

About noon I thought, “I have got to get out of this house! It doesn’t matter where I go, just … get … outside!”

I readied myself and hopped in the car. I felt as though I was on auto pilot, just steering and giving gas, and braking.

About 15 minutes into the drive I felt the fog begin to lift. The windows were down and the wind was whipping my hair around. The closer I got to the trees the sweeter the air became.

It really was heavenly. The forest looked healthy, the undergrowth looked clean. The air was fresh and the birds were singing. Surprisingly, I heard the buzz of insects flying around, quite unusual these days.

It never fails.

Whatever it is … whether it be anxiety, anger, depression, or just plain ol’ brain fog … spending time among the trees clears it up, usually replacing it with a smile. The forests are power houses of healing potential.

Here are the sounds of a healthy forest. Too often when I’m in the wilderness these days it is dead silent. My heart was quite filled by the flurry of life, the joyful sounds and movements.

I originally thought I would find a U-pick berry farm and then pluck some sweetness from the earth. After my beautiful leisure cruise, I was ready to come home. To my amazed and grateful surprise, there was a lady selling fruits and veggies alongside the road, quite rural on the journey yet. I stopped and filled my box. Looks like cucumber, onion, tomato salad for supper and a fruit covered short bread with home made ice cream for dessert. Mmmmm.

Now I wait. Veggies are stewing in some sauce. Pretty soon it’ll be scrump-delicious!

It is days like today that remind me of the importance of getting up out of my chair and out of the house. Without these times, life just gets muddled, one day running into the next … auto pilot.
