Yesterday I decided to drive to Hood River to pick strawberries. There was only one farm open for u-pick. When I arrived I was told there was a limit of four pints.
In a bit I’ll look for recipes, maybe make a strawberry pie and then jam from the remaining berries.
The drive through the Columbia River Gorge is always a pleasure. I thought of my step-father bringing my family here to finish our ‘raising’. He was a lot of things, and one thing I’m grateful to him for is the location he chose for us to live. The memories are something I will treasure, always.
I took the Historic Columbia River Highway on the way back to the city. What amazing scenery! I imagined what life must have been like before the area was so populated … before roads. What Peace these people must have had!
I stopped at the Woman’s Pavilion lookout and enjoyed a wonderful Wind Dance performed by Nature itself. I love my immediate area, and am quite happy with my choice to remain in it, rather than in the expansive world ‘out there’.
Just finished making my 100 mile, hand picked, strawberry pie. I LOVE this pie! 100 mile hand picked strawberry pie is the best!
I admit I used a pre-made crust, but what’s inside it was all me! 😊
