Addictions and Habits

Published February 9, 2019 by tindertender

I got sucked in to the idea that the internet is addictive. Yes, I believe it is, but no more than the precursor called television and movies. I kicked myself a bit this morning for spending so much time surfing and watching different news from regular people all over the internet. I could hardly tear myself away from it! I decided to watch a movie on the TV instead.

Here it is 2.5 hours later, my movie is over. While it was quite entertaining, I learned nothing new from it. There were people pretending to be someone else, bad guys, good guys, and of course the good guys won.

At least with the internet and the news posted by various every day joes and joesets, I get to choose to watch what I feel benefits my life and adds to my knowledge. I care to learn different techniques on how to use medicinal herbs, absorb ideas and ways to survive should it be necessary, and of course, the real news about what is going on around the world and in government. Yes, the same news that so many desire to label as crap and conspiracy.

Currently I am considering a shift in thought about the World Wide Web being a ‘waste’ of time. It certainly is a better way, when used constructively, to spend ones time than watching preprogrammed movies, one after the other … or in playing some sort of video game hour after hour, day after day.

I would like to see people put the phone in pocket while walking and pay close attention to who is around them, doing what, or plotting what. The reasoning behind my desire to see people with heads UP when they are out and about is that people are easy targets when they are not in tune with their surroundings.

So …

Continue your research, by all means, but please be aware of the shadows where sleaze and slime lurk intending harm. And do not listen to anyone attempting to convince you that getting your news and info from the Web is any more addictive or harmful than the mind numbing programming being constantly streamed into nearly every household, or the video war games and survival games that seem to be so popular.

In fact … don’t take on others judgments about anything as your own. Let them keep that business for themselves. If what you are doing does not cause harm to others or self, then whatever it takes … keep on being you.

Maybe get outside once in awhile and take a good look at what is around you. It will be uncomfortable at first if you haven’t done it in awhile. You may feel silly just doing nothing, especially if you notice people noticing you there. Sit still anyway, look at the same things over and over again. You will start to see things you didn’t notice originally, details that were looked over when first viewed, unnoticed as your eyes took in the scene and noted (or not) by the brain.

There is snow outside and it is beautiful. I will not be going anywhere today, although I have a hankering to buy a big crystal pendant or some sort of wonderful polished stone. Being snowed in is most likely a great benefit to me today.

Perhaps I’ll do something I never do and watch movies all day. I do not feel like baking, or reading, or doing laundry. Watching movies, streaming the news, pretty much putting my brain into fog zone may not be so bad after all … just for today.
