Claiming Control ~ Power of Choice

Published December 1, 2018 by tindertender

“You do not know who they are. Neither do I. It’s one thing we have in common. Perhaps one thing you deny.”

This is the phrase that came to mind as I drove across town and into the next.

On my journey home I looked over the rail that separates the freeway and the city streets. There was a huge building there and on the side of it, facing the freeway, it said in BIG BOLD LETTERS Distillery of Spirits. I thought about that for awhile, wondering why … and who … named alcohol ‘spirits’.

When a person has too much to drink sometimes they black out. This is a tell tale sign of the goodness in them stepping aside, for it cannot stand the mess the body experiences during these times. This allows room for ‘spirits’ to enter and take over for awhile. When friends, or others tell of the actions or words spoken in these experiences it seems impossible, for often these behaviors are far from the actual person living this life … and it is because it isn’t them.

People are amplifiers of the Spirit Energy. When anger is fostered in the mind and heart, these things are what is amplified. If love and compassion are cultivated in mind and heart, then this is what is amplified.

You may have heard the story of an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, warring for control of the minds of men (and women, and even children). This is truth in the sense that there is indeed an invisible battle for the mind. The only way to combat this is to be aware, to fortify caring thoughts and control what you will allow in mind, in heart, in action.

Often in this life we are told we do not have control, that life is determined by fate, or destiny. We are told that we are at the mercy of our Savior, and should we not properly believe in Him, we are threatened with eternal damnation.

Understand that you have control … of your thoughts, of your actions, and the way you treat others and yourself. Giving up your sovereignty has been the goal of string-pullers, manipulators. They want you to admit, and then believe, that you are powerless. This is so far from the truth.

Being powerful does not mean putting your thumb on others, imposing your will on them, allowing them to thrive should they do your bidding, or crush them should they not. No … being powerful means being responsible for yourself and choosing what is righteous, without need for recognition or praise or people who ‘follow’ you. It means giving without need for return. It means allowing others to make their own mistakes without judgement … possibly sharing experiences of your own, should they be open to it.

Lead by example … practice humility … count your blessings.

While I hear you speak about one, I speak to many. I pose the suggestion that rather than a pin-pointed focus on one, let the focus go wide, and see the all …. BE the all.

You may have also heard the phrase, “practice makes perfect”. Let new habits form, but only through conscious effort and choice, which benefits all life, including self.

Only when you are able to admit you have control will you be able to make positive change. Only when you choose this as part of the new you, will the new you show up.
