“With three on her back she began to ascend the ladder. Rung by rung she climbed. The ladder was so very long! She got more than half way up and stopped, tired. She looked down and could not see the ground, they urged her to continue, and she did. Once again she stopped, looking to the bottom seeing only rungs of the ladder, looking up and finally seeing the end of the climb, she did not think she could make it, she was so very weary!! A voice from behind her stated that it was all for love … she said aloud, loudly, “I love you!” and hooked her elbow to the rung, pulling upward, again and again …”
And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon the place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood beside him, and said: ‘I am the LORD, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed. And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. And in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee back into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.’ And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said: ‘Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.’ And he was afraid, and said: ‘How full of awe is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.’

What ladder are you climbing? Is it a ladder of self-awareness? Are you doing everything in your ability to improve your mind, to relax and open to possibilities? Are you consciously choosing to grow compassion and understanding in your heart? Are you practicing patience, with others, with yourself … and forgiveness too?
This journey is not an easy one. You know by now there is much suffering on this path, but you have the power to change that story, you have the creative ability and the steadfast will to make a difference. Every day you continue to push yourself forward, trying again and again to improve on the previous efforts. Even when you are tired and would like nothing more than to curl up in bed and let the day slip by, you rise … you do what needs to be done anyway … you are mighty!
